Let me ask you something, when was the last time your whole family gathered around a screen together? Chances are, it was your TV. Not phones, not tablets, but good old television. In my own home, our 7pm news ritual and weekend movie nights are traditions we just can't replace with streaming.
1. Your Most Trusted News Source (That Won't Give You Fake Headlines)
Remember the last breaking news event you heard about? I bet you turned to TV first. There's a reason for that. While my Twitter feed floods with unverified rumors during crises, my local news channel gives me facts that journalists have actually checked. Just last month during the floods, it was our regional TV station not Facebook that told us which roads to avoid.
2. Entertainment That Doesn't Buffer (Or Ask For Your Password)
My cousin in the village still relies on his trusty old TV because his internet cuts out more often than not. Meanwhile in cities, we're paying for 5 different streaming services yet still arguing about what to watch. Television solves this turn it on and boom, you're watching. No login screens, no "who's using the Netflix account," just instant entertainment.
3. The Original Classroom (Long Before Zoom Existed)
I'll never forget how my little niece learned English from Dora the Explorer. Schools in rural India still use Doordarshan's educational programs. And let's be honest aren't we all still learning from those 2am History Channel documentaries? Television educates in a way that feels like fun, not homework.
4. Your Window to the World (No Plane Ticket Needed)
Thanks to TV, my grandmother in Jaipur knows more about Korean culture than I do all from her daily K-dramas. Where else can you travel from Brazil's beaches to Japan's cherry blossoms during commercial breaks? This cultural exchange happens effortlessly through television.
5. The Advertisements You Actually Don't Mind Watching
Think about it we skip YouTube ads but hum along to TV commercials. There's some thing approximately those massive finances TV spots that on line ads simply can not healthy. Local businesses particularly gain while their commercials run throughout popular shows. My friend's jewelry shop got more customers from one prime-time ad than a year of Instagram promotions.
6. The Last Thing Bringing Families Together
In my house, if it's 8pm, we're all watching that family drama together phones down, actual conversations happening. These shared experiences create memories. My parents still talk about how Chandrayan's landing on TV all over the neighborhood something like that everyone is watching on a personal phone.
7. When disaster strikes, the TV becomes a lifeline
During last year's cyclone, our power was over but we had an old battery powered TV. Those emergency broadcasts told us when to get out. In villages without trusted internet, TV is the only way that officials can reach people quickly during the crisis.
TV is convenient when necessary
They have been predicting the death of TV since YouTube was discovered, though we are here now with smart TV that gives us both traditional channels and applications. The magic of television is everything for everyone: entertainment for children, news for parents, education for students and a cultural bridge for grandparents.
As long as it is developed (and as long as we keep that invaluable family moments in front of it), television is nowhere to go. Now if you are forgiving me, my favorite show is about to start and yes, I'll see it on real TV!
